TRAUMA

UTILISING EVIDENCE BASED PRACTICE AND A TRAUMA-INFORMED APPROACH AT ALL TIMES

The reality is, anyone who has a diagnosed mental illness has suffered some trauma during their lives.  Many of us do not think of ourselves as falling into such a category, comparing our own life experiences with those whom we feel "had it tougher".  In actual fact, any significantly distressing experience we have suffered represents trauma for us as individuals.  Not everybody suffers the same level of distress from the same experience.  This is no way suggests a weakness, but is to demonstrate the complexity of the human condition, and the differing levels of sensitivity we have as individuals to varying situations.

Trauma is not the event. It comes from our experience and perception of the event.

I utilise a trauma-informed approach to all of my clients, and have, over the years, developed my skills and enhanced my practice by using Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR).  I am an Accredited Practitioner with EMDRAA which requires meeting certain standards and being able to demonstrate a high level of skill and expertise. During 2024 I have been and continue to work towards becoming an EMDR Consultant with EMDRAA; so I can assist other therapists become Accredited Practitioners.  Contact me to find out more how I can help you, and how this approach could assist in your recovery and symptom management.
